RE: Not evacuating from hurricane, questions

Tie it down? What!? It is not a matter of how hard the wind is blowing, it is "WHAT" the wind is blowing. During Rita, saw a few RVs that were not flipped over, but had a PINE TREE in the middle of them.

RE: Generator Air vs. Dash Air

Well, right or wrong, here is what we do: If it is cool enough outside to run the dash a/c, and still be comfortable, that is what we do. If it is too hot outside to be comfortable with dash a/c only, then we run the genny and the central a/c. If it is really hot, we run both. I would think that never running your dash a/c would not be good for the dash a/c system either. Mechanic told me that if you never run your compressor, it shortens the life of it.

RE: 30A connected to 50A

Let me give it a shot…..when I had a Winne it had 30-amp service but the gen provided 50 amps. Basically the other 20 amps on the gen only serviced my 2nd AC. I don’t remember where I got it but I installed a breaker box (box was only about 5” square) by my feet on the firewall. It tapped into the 20amp circuit on the gen; I had a switch on the box and a separate 20-amp cord to plug in at the campgrounds for the 2nd AC. This setup did not trip the ground faults on the campgrounds that had them. At the time this was very easy for me to install (about three hours) Paul This sounds like the "Dual Power Adapter" from Power Solutions. A must have for a 30 amp coach in my opinion. Cheap, and easy to install. Now I can run both A/Cs at the same time, along with the Frig and HWH on electric with power to spare.

RE: Analog TV turndown - starting a little sooner than Feb 09

feb 2009 is NOT the start date of digital, ( where did you get that Idea? )He did not say that. Where did YOU get that idea? Thats right I didn't say that. I have no idea why some people are so polite on this forum. You try to post some helpful information here and have to deal with a wize-guy comment.

Analog TV turndown - starting a little sooner than Feb 09

Have you changed out your TV or installed the digital converter box yet? I see that some stations are going begin "lowering" their analog signal strengths before February 2009. For example, CBS KHOU 11 in Houston is lowering their analog signal strength in October this year.

RE: Would you want to be a teacher?!?!?

If this was my child's school district, I would move. This is TEXAS STATEWIDE. You'd need to move out of state. This is not statewide...my wife is a teacher in El Paso and I forwarded the article to her...trust me, she would know if her district participated in these new rules. Now, there is no guarantee what might happen in the future. :) You are correct, I stand corrected. My wife informed me of this today. She has been teaching here in the Houston area for 16 years. This crazy plan was enacted this year here. I am afraid that it is not so easy running from these polices. Hard to quit after many years. It is a shame.

RE: The Chevy Volt, 4 down or not?

Has any one seen any info on this Vehical. This would be a sweet toad. Cheers There has been no information on whether or not it will be 4 wheel towable. I don't think the 4 down towing thing is in GM's "need to do" list for this car. But the technology behind this car is in GM's plan to equip in many cars, not just the Volt, so perhaps it will be 4-wheel towable in some model, some day.

RE: The Chevy Volt, 4 down or not?

There are over 33,000 people on the waiting list for the Chevy Volt. GM has is in full swing with this vehicle, and has already shown the range to be that greater than 40. Check out: http://gm-volt.com for more information.

RE: The Chevy Volt, 4 down or not?

Don't bank on GM getting this thing to market anytime soon. They are still trying to figure out how to get 35 MPG from a computer controlled four cylinder gas burner. They will never get this to work. From what I have read it only has a range of 40 miles anyway. I live farther than that from work. What am I supposed to do walk home? Walk? Not at all. After the approx 40 miles, the I.C.E. kicks in. So if you live more than the range it is absolutely no problem.

RE: The Chevy Volt, 4 down or not?

Sounds real high-tech, able to go 40 miles on a charge. My golf cart can do that. I am not impressed. Your golf cart won't go 80-90 mph though.

RE: Oil usage way down

I agree with "gasbag" - that is exactly how the "powers that be" are hoping you will feel about the cost of gas/fuel - i.e., so lucky and pleased to have what "seems like" a newly discounted price, when in truth - it is still up significantly from what it was a year ago and it is still eating a giant hole in your budget. Also known as "Price Conditioning".

RE: Oil usage way down

When we use LESS. They produce even LESSER. Therefore supply/inventories remain tight. That is the gameplan for Big Oil to make bigger profits.... and it works for them.

RE: Bicycle Rack

I tried the ladder bike rack from Camping World. NO WAY. I brought it back before even attempting to drive with my bikes on it. One of several things was going to take place with the ladder bike rack in my opinion: 1. The weight of the bikes on the ladder was going to cause the ladder to bend. 2. The ladder was going to tear off the motorhome eventually. 3. The bikes were going to fall off. 4. The bikes were going to damage the rear of the motorhome. 5. All of the above. I took that thing back. I noticed later on the CW website, nearly all negative reviews on the product. I should have researched better before buying it. Now I put the bikes in the toad.

RE: Black water OVERFLOW...OH NO!

Hmmm. Mine does this exact same thing. If I allow the Black Tank to completely fill up, and then keep adding water, mine flows out the bottom somewhere too. I thought it was supposed to do that. :h Guess something is wrong with mine too.

RE: Chevron attempts to squash battery for Hybrid Mercedes

How much less would that loss be if they didn't kill the EV1, but instead offered a plug in Hybrid? Pretty reliable numbers say that a EV1 like hybrid could have been done in the 30K range. Had they taken what they did and made the Prius, they'd be beating Toyota severely. It's coming, just a little bit of patience. Toyota, GM, and Ford all offered electric vehicles. They didn't make it, neither did the dinosaurs. When it's practical and cost effective, we'll be able to buy them, and the manufacturer will make money selling them, maintaining them, and repairing them, just like any other vehicle. I don't want an electric vehicle, yet. GM's working on the Volt, their second ground breaking, bold automotive program that goes where nobody else has really gone yet. Ev1 was being built when America was still in love with big trucks and SUV's, car sales continued to dwindle across the board, and GM leased a total of how many over 4 years of production?? Them's slim pickens, I don't care how many fingers you count on. No doubt mistakes have been made, GM could (and should) have handled the EV1 situation differently. Remember that companies are in the business to make money. And when they can do that, and also bring something new to the table, they usually will, it's called profitable business, and it's what all of them are striving for. What's even better is that GM is saying the Chevy Volt battery will have a 10 year 150,000 mile warranty.
